PNG keeping gas flowing by trucking in LNG

PNG has managed to contain a gas line leak 17 km southeast of town that was damaged by a contractor that was working on the line.

The company immediately stopped the flow of gas to the damage pipe, and has started trucking in liquid natural gas, which they are injecting into the system below the break to keep an uninterrupted flow of gas to town.

It took the company just over 12 hours to make the pipe safe, which was damaged at around 11:00 am on September 2, and was pronounced safe just after midnight, around 12:30 pm.

There were no injuries.

PNG is now working on the necessary repairs and restoration of the pipeline, as well as conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident.
