You still have a week left in the Tumbler Ridge Geopark Fishing Derby.
The contest, which is open to anyone with a valid 2020 Freshwater Fishing License, is sponsored by Meikle wind.
It is the second annual fishing derby, but looks much different than last years’, due, of course, to Covid-19.
Last year, the contest ran for one weekend, and volunteers from the Geopark manned stations at lakes around Tumbler Ridge, and contest participants would come in to have their fish weighed and measured.
This year, entries are on the honour system. Either post your photo on the Tumbler Ridge Fishing Derby Photo Contest post on Facebook, or email info@tumblerridgegeopark.ca.
You can enter one photo per day.
Because there is no way to verify the size of the fish, this year’s entry will be by draw. “We’ll be drawing the winner live on Facebook,” says Jenna McQueen, Program Coordinator for the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Geopark. “Each picture you submit will be an entry.”
McQueen says the first few days of the contest were slow because of the rain, but it’s starting to pick up.
She says the photo must include the person who caught the fish, the fish that was caught, and the lake/river it was caught in. “You may not use the same photo, or the same fish for multiple entries, and, of course, the fish must be caught in the Lakes/Rivers located within the Tumbler Ridge Geopark!”
First place for the adult and youth categories is a kayak, and second place is a fishing rod. Kids under seven will all receive prizes for entering.
