The best in the west?

A group of sledders head out on Saturday, during the Ridge Riders annual Poker Ride.

Tumbler Ridge recently beat out Edson, AB to advance to the final round of voting at SnoRiders West Magazine’s SledTown Shown Down.

Tumbler Ridge faces off (is a hockey metaphor appropriate for an article about snowmobiling?) with Flin Flon, Manitoba, which beat out Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan in their semi-finals match up.

Fans of sledding in Tumbler Ridge, and passionate supporters have until January 20 to cast their vote (once a day) for Tumbler Ridge.

If Tumbler Ridge, wins, the local snowmobiling club—The Tumbler Ridge Ridge Riders— will get a trophy, as well as feature articles and advertising in SnoRiders Magazine. “Plus,” writes Kyle Born in a recent article about the contest on the SnoRider’s website, “it is a chance to raise positive awareness of snowmobiling and to recognize local clubs for all their hard work.”

Tumbler Ridge’s climb to the top two has been a long, difficult slog, beating Edson in the semi-finals by 118 votes. Which sounds like a lot, but the final vote tally was 16,938 to 16,820, a difference of less than one percent.

Before that, Tumbler Ridge edged out previous SledTown ShowDown champion Sicamous BC with 11,611 votes to their 11,236 votes, which they added to their earlier defeats of Revelstoke, Blue River and Golden.

From a purely numbers point of view, Tumbler Ridge had nearly double the number of votes as Flin Flon in the semi-finals round, but the northern Manitoba destination is giving Tumbler a run for its money. During the first few days of voting the two towns have switched leads as each community musters its social media resources.

While Tumbler Ridge is in the lead at the time of this writing, that can quickly change. Visit the SnoRiders website to vote.
