After a few days with no new cases announced in Northern BC, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced there was one new case in the north on Monday March 23.
It’s one of 48 new cases discovered in the province since the previous announcement on Saturday.
Three people have died due to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths so far to 13.
However, of the 472 cases there has been, 100 of them have now cleared isolation and are considered recovered.
3600 people are being tested each day, says Health Minister Adrian Dix, and the number of people being tested should double by the end of the week.
BC Parks is closing their parks to camping until the end of April, though day-use services (like trails) will remain open.
Northern Health announced today it will be limiting visitors to patients in Northern Health Facilities only to essential visits.
Essential visits will be considered for patients who are:
- critically ill
- receiving end-of-life care
- frail and need an escort or family member for their safety
Eligible essential visitors must pass important screening criteria. This means they cannot have a cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat or shortness of breath, and they cannot have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days.
