Break out the pencils and the books, because school’s back after summer.
This year, it is starting about as late as it possibly can, as Labour Day will be September 7.
As usual, the first day of school is the Wednesday after Labour Day, or Wednesday, September 9.
School will start two hours later and end two hours early that day. What that means depends on whether your child goes to Tumbler Ridge Elementary, where school usually starts at 8:50 and gets out at 2:30) or Tumbler Ridge Secondary, where school starts at 8:40 and ends at 3:00.
The next day, Thursday, September 10, school will be in all day.
Because the high school is in portables, it presents a few additional issues for parents to be aware of.
First off, there are no lockers on site, so students will have to carry their daily allotment of books with them. “Space is limited,” says a post on the school’s Facebook page. “Teachers will communicate with students what is required for their classes.”
Secondly, because there is no gym (and TRSS will not be using the TRE gym), high school students in gym class need to be prepared to go outside in good weather.
On the upside, there are water coolers in the classrooms, so a water bottle will be helpful.
