Chetwynd Chamber brings BC Chamber Executives to Tumbler Ridge

The Chetwynd Chamber played host to a group of BC Chamber executive directors on a Northeastern BC Circle Tour.

According to my personal hero Naomi Larsen, who serves as Executive Director for the Chetwynd Chamber, most of the people on the trip had never been in the north before.

“The purpose of the trip was to show them the economic diversity of this region and the importance of Northeastern BC to the rest of the province, she says.

The tour took members to Saulteau First Nations, where they spoke with the band about their history as well as all of the projects they have going on and how important they are to our local economy.

The group next stopped in Chetwynd for a chainsaw tour and carving demonstration, as the twentieth anniversary of the Chetwynd Chainsaw Carving competition starts this week.

Next, the group came to Tumbler Ridge, where they learned about the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark, met with Conuma Resources and got up close and personal with a wind turbine before moving on to Dawson Creek, where they visited Mile Zero post and spoke with city officials in Dawson Creek, checked out the new Visitor Centre, and the new Mah building where local entrepreneurs can try out having a physical space. On the way back, they stopped at the Kiskatinaw Bridge and took a trip across the infamous Taylor Bridge—which had come up in policy at the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM earlier in the week—and then back to Fort St. John.

“It was about an 11 hour day and it was completely sponsored by Innergex, EDF and Vitreo Minerals,” says Larsen.
