Here we go again…

High winds have pushed a fire—discovered today just after noon in the West Kiskatinaw area—to 2000 ha, with no signs of stopping.

The prevailing winds are pushing the fire almost due east, away from town and towards the Boot Lake recreation site, and an ominous band of smoke covers the lake.

The fire is believed to have started by a lightning strike. BC wildfire says they are mounting a full response to the fire, but no word yet on what that might entail.

The weather is expected to stay hot and dry until Friday.

There are currently no closures or alerts because of the fire, though it is only about 10 km from Boot Lake, and the Noel Road.

While there is currently no danger to the town, residents are encouraged to have an emergency kit.
