On November 4, the Women’s U18 BC Hockey Team will be coming to Tumbler Ridge, where they’ll be practicing ahead of the U18 National Championship, being held November 5–11 in Dawson Creek.
According to Director of Community Services Denis Bento, the specific details still needed to be worked out. What is known so far is about 30 people—including players and coaches—would need transportation from Dawson Creek to Tumbler Ridge and be fed. “Tumbler Ridge would also need to cover any ice time on November 4,” says Bento. “However, the benefits of hosting the team are clear. It would promote Tumbler Ridge, encourage youth into sports, and support a local hockey player. The community is eager to make the most of this opportunity and wanted to organize a meet and greet to connect with the players and showcase the town.”
According to Bento, Dawson Creek has even committed to providing 100 tickets to the Sunday evening game between Team BC and Ontario Black at the Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek.
“As everyone works together to coordinate the logistics, the excitement continues to build in Tumbler Ridge,” says Bento. “Hosting Team BC is a chance to bring the community together and show support for women’s hockey. It will be sure to be a memorable event for everyone involved.”
Council has approved $6500 for food and travel, and promotional items to donate to the team.
