The last few years have been tough on local businesses.
After two years of Covid restrictions, many were just starting to find their feet, when the town was evacuated for a week.
According to Jerrilyn Kirk, Executive Director for the Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce, the chamber is looking to support the businesses and the community with a new program.
“Following the evacuation, the TR Chamber of Commerce was approached by a local business expressing interest in having a Community Champion program in the community,” says Kirk. “We immediately saw the value in a Community Champion program.”
A Community Champion program “recognizes outstanding contributions that address critical social, economic and environmental needs throughout our society and communities, including local communities.”
These are people who the Chamber and business community can give back to and celebrate for what they have done for Tumbler Ridge.
The first Champion will be picked at the end of July. “Do you know someone who is always going above and beyond to make our community a better place to live,” says Kirk? “Well, it’s time to give them the recognition they deserve! The Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce our Community Champion Program!”
She says anyone can nominate a local resident who embodies the spirit of our town, and they could win a $100 to one of our fantastic local businesses.”
Community Champions will also be featured in a story in the paper.
“It’s time to show some love to those who make our community shine and the businesses who go above and beyond to provide superior service to residents of Tumbler Ridge,” says Kirk. “This award provide a tangible recognition of a community member’s efforts and serve as an inspiration to others to follow in their footsteps.”
Nominations can be emailed to tumblerchamber@gmail.com or you can send a message in Facebook messenger to the Tumbler Chamber telling us why the person you are nominating embodies the Champion spirit of Tumbler Ridge.
If you are a local business and would like to be involved, please contact Kirk at 250-242-3620 or send an email for more information.
