Mama we’re comin’ home! Evacuation order downgraded to alert

From the District of Tumbler Ridge.

The Evacuation Order issued June 8, 2023, for the District of Tumbler Ridge is rescinded, effective June 15 from 10:00 AM.

An Evacuation Alert remains in place for the area identified in yellow on the included map. The Evacuation Alert will remain in effect indefinitely and residents are reminded to be ready to evacuate the area with little notice should the need be determined.

Highway 52 N (Heritage Highway) from Dawson Creek is now considered safe and will reopen at 10:00 AM. Highway 52E is open from Kelly Lake to Tumbler Ridge.

The Bear Hole Lake Area Restriction Order in the vicinity of the South Peace Complex, which is managing the Peavine Creek (G70644) and West Kiskatinaw (G70645) wildfires is still in effect. Area restrictions or forest use restrictions refer to area closures or restrictions and activity restrictions necessary or desirable to limit the risk of a fire, to address a public safety concern or to avoid interference with fire control. This includes recreational activities.

ESS services remain in place until tomorrow, so no need to rush.
