Three groups seek funding from District in 2020

The Tumbler Ridge Youth Services Society is requesting $43,000 per year for the next three years, for a total ask of $129,000 to help run programs for the youth of this town. This is the largest ask before Council for 2020.

It is joined by the Tumbler Ridge Mountain Bike Society who are seeking $120,000 for construction of a paved pump track, and the Tumbler Ridge Days Society seeking $50,000 for event planning and hosting. (Update: The latter ask was partially denied; council only granted $20,000 to the TR Days Society.)

In addition, the District is still dispersing funds from previous years. They are granting $22,400 in operational funds to the Tumbler Ridge Hospice Society, $2000 to the Tumbler Ridge Mountain Bike Society for Insurance, $8,500 to the Tumbler Ridge Society for Children’s Needs and $16,000 to the Forever Young Society for operational costs and $30,000 to the Chamber of Commerce for Grant Writing.

In 2019 a total of $415,900 in grant in aid and fee for service funding was approved. In 2020 a total amount of $511,900 has been requested. The items were discussed at the Council Meeting on Feb 18, which happened after the paper went to press, as part of Council’s ongoing budget discussions.
