It is with great sadness that we announce that our mom, Susan Renee Hammond of Tumbler Ridge, BC, was called home to the Lord on April 16, 2026 at the age of 76. Our mom was born to John and Laura Stoyer in Meadville Pennsylvania, USA June 23/1949, baby sister to Ron, Rich, Jim and Larry. She graduated high school in Saegertown, PA in 1967 then nursing school at the City of Erie School in 1969. She worked as a LPN at the Spencer Hospital and Methodist Home of the Aged until meeting the love of her life and bravely moving to Canada in 1971.
Mom married her love, Ken Hammond on June 12/1972, becoming a step-mom to Cliff and David. Together they had 2 daughters Elisa Desiree (1973) and Karen Michelle (1976). She did not return to nursing, instead choosing to stay home raising her family with all her love and devotion. They lived in Fraser Lake, BC 1973-84 then moved north to Tumbler Ridge 1984, where they fell in love with the mountains and remained. Mom became a Canadian Citizen in 1990.
Mom was known for her love of the Lord, being involved in church, singing, teaching Sunday school and volunteering in her community. She always had a quick smile and a cheerful “hello” and would often “check in” with her friends and family both in Canada and the USA to see how everyone was and have a quick catch-up. Mom loved camping and traveling, which her and dad did a lot of until dad’s passing in 2015. In the last few years, mom became unable to travel or camp but would always come down to Flatbed in TR to have smokies and “blackened” marshmallows by the fire. Mom is predeceased by her love Ken, her parents John and Laura, her brother Jim, mother-in-law Evelyn, sisters-in-law Joanne, Darlene and Roberta. She will be greatly missed by all her knew her but especially her daughters Elisa (Craig) Wheeler, Karen Hammond (Mike Thibodeau), step-sons Cliff (Renata) Hammond, David (June) Storey. Grandchildren: Megan (Nathan), Devon (Jessica), Kailes, Sierra, Marisa, Mark, David Jr. and Alex. Great-grandchildren Ariana, Rylee, Jordan, Rowan, Isabella, Hadrian, April, Daniel and Maddy. Brothers Ron (Joyce), Rich and Larry (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews.
As per our mom’s wishes there will not be a funeral. Mom will be laid to rest alongside our dad in the Tumbler Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
