Volunteers from the Tumbler Ridge Mountain Bike Association (TRMBA) were out on May 8 cleaning up the existing trails for the 2026 while nearby, Cariboo Trail Creations Ltd. was out flagging and mapping in preparation for building six new trails on the ridge.
The new trails will connect to the current trails by both an upper trail and a lower trail, but the bulk of the new build will be located farther north on the ridge, with an up trail starting from where Mackenzie Way meets Highway 52 near the saddle club.
Last week, Zac from Cariboo Trail Creations was flagging and mapping the trails, which were then inspected by Rec Sites and Trails and given the green light to go ahead and build. Construction will start/will have started sometime this week.
TRMBA President Curtis Meidzinski says as the trail system grows, so will the need for community support. “This season, one of our biggest goals is growing our volunteer base. Whether you can help with trail building, maintenance days, events, or even just lending a hand when you can — every bit of support makes a difference. TRMBA exists because of passionate riders and volunteers who care about building and maintaining amazing trails for everyone to enjoy.”
The organization is firing on all cylinders, with their first two editions of the bike bus attracting 50 registered kids.
The bike bus is a group ride to school, with volunteers and parents escorting the kids from the upper bench, down to the lower bench and then through the middle bench before finally arriving at the school.
Currently it runs Tuesdays and Thursdays. Stronger riders can do the whole ride, while beginner riders can join later or leave for the school earlier.
The new trails will more than double the amount of rideable trails.
