Councillor Dusseault resigns

At the February 2 council meeting, it was announced that Councillor Dusseault—who has been on leave from Council since the December 15 meeting of council and had missed the previous four meetings as well—would be resigning.

Mayor Darryl Krakowka took a moment to thank her for the time she has put in this term.

“She has some personal concerns that means that she has had to step away to deal with family emergencies that have arisen,” says Krakowka. “She has decided this is the best step for her.”

As municipal elections are scheduled for October 17 of this year, council has decided not to fill the seat with a by-election.

According to the Local Government Act, this can be done if the vacancy occurs after January 1 in a year of a general local election that will fill the office, as long as the number of remaining council members is at least one greater than the quorum for the council.

Dusseault is the second councillor to leave this term, following Councillor Ken Klikach, who resigned January 20 last year.
