A list of candidates running in the federal election

As of production day (March 31), there are no candidates listed on the official elections.ca website for the Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies electoral district.

That’s not correct, according the folks at Bob Zimmer’s office, who say the current MP for the district has filled out his paperwork and is already out campaigning.

And David Watson, who is running for the People’s Party of Canada, has already sent me his bio and head shot.

Mary Forbes is listed as a candidate for the Green Party in this riding, though other than her name, nothing else is up on the website. Forbes is currently out of William’s Lake, where she is vice-chair for the school district, and is also a former oil field archeologist, who worked out of Fort St. John. She also spearheaded the Stream of Dreams program in the north; you know those fish on the fence at Tumbler Ridge Elementary? That’s her.

A quick check of liberal.ca does not yield a candidate in either Prince George riding, though there is a candidate in the Skeena-Bulkley Valley Riding.

The NDP have a candidate in Cariboo-Prince George as well as one in the Skeena-Bulkley Valley riding, but do not have one listed on their website running in this riding, though according to Cory “Grizz” Longley’s Facebook page, he will be running for the NDP. He last ran federally for the NDP in 2021.

The Bloc Quebecois—the other party with actual sitting MPs—does not have a Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies candidate, either.

Altogether, there are 16 registered political parties in Canada, which include (in addition to the ones already listed): the Animal Protection Party of Canada, the Canadian Future Party, the Centrist Party of Canada, the Christian Heritage Party of Canada, the Communist Party of Canada, the Libertarian Party of Canada, the Marijuana Party, the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada, the Parti Rhinocéros Party and the United Party of Canada.

Candidates have until April 7 to register. We will have a complete list of candidates in our next issue, as well as bios and questions for all the candidates.

The Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce may be hosting an all candidates meeting. We shall keep you posted.

David Watson is running for the People Party of Canada, while Mary Forbes is the Green Party Candidate for the riding.
