We’ve got ourselves a race.
For a while there, it was looking like there wouldn’t be enough candidates to form a full council, but when the clock ran out, there were eight people who had stood up to be counted.
Only one person put in their papers for the position of mayor, meaning that current mayor Darryl Krakowka will be mayor for the next four years by acclamation.
Three current councillors are hoping to return. Chris Norbury, Nicole Noksana and Ron Hofman were all on council this last term. A fourth candidate, Don McPherson, has also served on council, including one term as mayor.
He ran against Krakowka in the 2022 mayoral race, placing second. He also tried to return to council in a by-election in 2025, but lost to another former mayor, Keith Bertrand, by a single vote.
Other candidates include Rick Consalvi, who ran for mayor back in 2022, Sydney Doonan, Paul Landrecht, and Shelly Quist.
There are also three candidates running for school trustee. These are current trustee Roxanne Gulick, former trustee Sherry Berringer and newcomer Ron Hofman.
The 2026 General Election will be held October 17, with official results due by October 21. There will be advance voting on October 7 and October 14.
While this list is current as of press time, candidates still have until tomorrow (Sept 18) to withdraw their names.
