The Prince George Cougars will be facing off against the Edmonton Oil Kings in a pair of games here in Tumbler Ridge in September.
The preseason games will happen on Friday, September 4 and Sunday, September 6, bringing high-level hockey to Tumbler Ridge and providing local fans with an opportunity to watch the Western Hockey League (WHL) without leaving town.
The games are being put on in partnership between the District of Tumbler Ridge, Tumbler Ridge Minor Hockey Association, Tumbler Ridge Curling Club, Tumbler Ridge Figure Skating Club, and Tumbler Ridge Oldtimers Hockey.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Tumbler Ridge,” says Mayor Darryl Krakowka. “Bringing two WHL teams to our community is something that will excite hockey fans of all ages. These games showcase what can be achieved when community organizations and volunteers work together, and we are proud to welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings, Prince George Cougars, and their supporters to Tumbler Ridge this September.”
In addition to attracting local fans, the games are expected to attract visitors from throughout Northeast British Columbia and Alberta, creating a memorable experience for local residents while highlighting Tumbler Ridge as a destination for sport, recreation, and community events.
Ticket sale information and additional event details will be announced in the coming weeks.
