On April 1, the Tumbler Ridge RCMP put out a press release saying that they had recently destroyed 20 firearms that had been seized during investigations between 2016 and 2024.
“These firearms had been rendered inoperable through and approved destruction process and are no longer legally classified as firearms,” says the RCMP.
However, the former weapons apparently were found by a local community member, leading to rumours suggesting they were connected to the recent tragedy in February.
This is not the case, says the RCMP.
“All firearms related to the February tragedy are currently being held by the North District Major Crime Unit as part of their ongoing investigation,” said Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Interim Detachment Commander for Tumbler Ridge RCMP. “None of the firearms destroyed as part of this routine process are connected to that event.”
