The Northern Lights College Foundation, with support from its board, has created an endowment to support the community of Tumbler Ridge: The Northern Resilience Memorial Fund.
“Northern Lights College (NLC) has been part of Tumbler Ridge since the community’s creation in the early 1980s,” says a page on their website about the announcement. “NLC has adapted and changed along with Tumbler Ridge over the last four decades, supporting students as they navigate both challenges and successes in the community.”
The fund was created in tribute to those whose lives were lost and in solidarity with the community of Tumbler Ridge. “It will give ongoing financial help to Tumbler Ridge residents looking to attend or already attending NLC. All Tumbler Ridge residents, past and current, will be able to apply for these awards when attending NLC.”
Northern Lights College Foundation has started the fund with $1000, and will be seeking to grow the fund through donations. “The Foundation looks forward to seeing it grow and supporting local students for years to come as they pursue their post-secondary education.”
Lindsey Borek, Executive Director of the NLC Foundation, says “this fund transforms heartbreak into hope, helping local students pursue their education and build brighter futures, carrying forward the strength and spirit that define this community.”
Community members, businesses, community groups, and alumni are invited to contribute to this legacy. “Every donation, large or small, helps build a lasting foundation for Tumbler Ridge students to thrive today and for generations to come.”
