CHETWYND, BC — Community support was on full display Saturday as residents gathered for the Tumbler Ridge Strong BBQ and Silent Auction, a fundraiser held in support of those affected by the recent tragedy in Tumbler Ridge.
The event took place at North Wind Supplies building and drew a steady flow of people throughout the afternoon.
Organizers offered hamburgers and hot dogs by donation, while a silent auction featured dozens of items contributed by local businesses, organizations and individuals. There were also a number of raffles in play as well as donation collection.
Bidding for the auction was hosted online through 32 auctions, allowing supporters from outside the region to take part. Auction items ranged from gift baskets and tools to services and experiences, reflecting broad community involvement.
Organizers said the goal of the fundraiser was twofold: to raise financial support and to provide a space for people to come together in solidarity. Volunteers handled food service, auction logistics and setup, while businesses across the region stepped up with donations and sponsorship.
Attendees described the event as emotional but uplifting, offering a chance to connect with neighbours and show tangible support. Many stopped to talk, share stories and reflect on the importance of standing together during difficult times.
All tolled, the event raised over $112,000 for Tumbler Ridge.
Proceeds from the barbecue and silent auction will go toward ongoing community-led support efforts connected to Tumbler Ridge.
Organizers thanked everyone who donated items, volunteered time or attended, saying the response underscored the strength and resilience of Northern BC communities.
