CHETWYND, B.C. — A simple act of kindness is spreading across Chetwynd as residents look for ways to support Tumbler Ridge following last week’s tragic events.
Local resident Delena Nelson, with help from her family, has launched a heart campaign titled “TR, our hearts are with you.” The initiative invites community members to take part in a visible show of support for the people of Tumbler Ridge.
Large red hearts have been placed in snowbanks and flower boxes around Chetwynd, free for anyone to take home and display in their yard. Residents are encouraged to write messages of support on the back of the hearts using a permanent marker.
Hearts with messages can be left where they are found or arrangements can be made for pickup. Nelson plans to personally deliver the collected hearts to Tumbler Ridge, where they will be shared with families and the broader community.
The hearts can be staked into the snow or displayed without stakes and are designed to last, serving as a long-term symbol of remembrance and solidarity.
Nelson said the campaign grew out of a desire to help when words felt inadequate, offering a tangible way for people to express care, compassion and support during a time of deep grief.
The project continues to draw participation as residents look for meaningful ways to stand with a neighbouring community in mourning.
