Last week, the BC Legislature returned to session.
Local MLA Larry Neufeld returned to work, bringing along a petition he received at the rally on October 4.
He says he promises to bring forward the petition to keep the Tumbler Ridge Emergency Room open and fully operational.
“This has been an ongoing effort,” he says. “It began when residents first raised concerns about reduced hours and uncertainty around medical coverage in Tumbler Ridge. Since then, I have met with local leaders, health care staff, and residents who have been directly affected. We have held multiple town halls to ensure every voice could be heard and every concern brought forward.”
He says the message from Tumbler Ridge could not be clearer: access to emergency care is not optional. “It is essential for the safety and well-being of families, seniors, and workers across Peace River South. The petition I am presenting represents a community that has stood together and refused to accept less than what it deserves. I have consistently and firmly spoken directly with the Minister of Health and the CEO of Northern Health about this issue, pressing for real action and a permanent solution that keeps emergency services available when and where people need them.”
He says Tumbler Ridge deserves stability in health care. “I will continue to stand up and make sure their voices are heard in Victoria until that stability is secured.”
