Flatbed Creek repair

For the third year in a row, a bridge on Highway 29 to Chetwynd is being repaired, meaning that people travelling along the highway can expect some delays.

This year, the bridge being worked on is one over Flatbed Creek. According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, they are rehabilitating Flatbed Creek Bridge this fiscal year as part of its preservation program. “Work includes deck resurfacing, installation of new deck joints, and minor parapet repairs.”

Work was scheduled to start on July 7, but according to the Ministry, that date is now July 14, with milling of the bridge deck starting July 16. “At that time, traffic will be reduced to single lane alternating. Completion is expected in early November.”

Over that time, expect single-lane alternating traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals and a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h.

According to a post on the District website, “crews will be on site monitoring traffic and ensuring safe flow through the construction zone. Wide loads will still be accommodated, with a maintained minimum lane width of 4.6m.”

Over the last few years, the ministry has been doing bridge repair work between Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd. They have rehabilitated the piers and resurfaced the Lower Bullmoose Creek Bridge, resurfaced Bullmoose Creek Bridge, completed preliminary investigations on the Wolverine Bridge deck, with further investigations planned for its substructure. The Murray River Bridge has also been resurfaced.
