On March 22, The Tumbler Ridge Outdoor Recreation Association and Tumbler Ridge Riders were awarded the Tourism Promotion and Development Award at the 2025 BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) Excellence Awards in Squamish.
The awards were held as part of the BCSF’s Sixtieth Anniversary Club Congress and Annual General Meeting.
Clubs from around the province were joined by industry leaders and passionate snowmobilers who came to the AGM to recognize outstanding contributions and support for the recreational activity of snowmobiling across BC.
“We are thrilled to announce that TRORA has been honoured with the 2025 BCSF Tourism and Promotional Development Award,” the group posted on Facebook. “This recognition celebrates our dedicated efforts to enhance snowmobiling tourism in Tumbler Ridge through our strong partnership with one of our founding clubs, the Tumbler Ridge Riders Snowmobile Association, and our collaborative work with the BC Snowmobile Federation.”
The BCSF Snowmobile Excellence Awards honor individuals, snowmobile clubs, associations, and businesses in BC that have significantly contributed to showcasing the popularity and overall appeal of the sport. These awards celebrate those who have made remarkable efforts to promote solidarity and responsibility within the snowmobile community or have provided exceptional service to snowmobilers over the past year.
Board member Curtis Miedzinski was at the ceremony. He says beyond the award, it was a great chance to meet people from clubs who volunteer all around the province. “Having valuable discussions around snowmobiling was inspiring as we can apply to Tumbler Ridge Ridge Riders.”
He was there for two days, with a variety of speakers. “It was very informative and I learned a lot about what the BCSF’s role is when helping clubs, in promoting, attracting new people, and keeping the sport going for future generations.
He says the award has written upon it what it is for. “Awarded for the development and implementation of a program, original imitative or event that has contributed to increasing the image and exposure of snowmobiling and growth of the sport in British Columbia.”
Nominations for the awards come directly from the snowmobiling community. Riders submitted their nominations to their local clubs, which then reviewed them and forwarded their top nominees to the Federation for committee review. This year, there were 179 nominations submitted for the Snowmobile Club of the Year category alone.
“This year’s BCSF Annual General Meeting was incredibly enriching. It provided us with valuable insights and forged connections that will propel our initiatives forward,” says TRORA. “We sincerely thank the BCSF for this prestigious award and for supporting snowmobiling throughout BC. Inspired by this accolade, we are more committed than ever to showcasing Tumbler Ridge as a premier destination for snowmobiling enthusiasts!”
