On International Women’s Day (aka, the day everything happened in Tumbler Ridge, aka March 8), Bob Zimmer was in town for the first annual Tumbler Ridge Outdoor Recreation Association (TRORA) Winterfest.
While he was here, he awarded Joline Couture the King’s Coronation Medal, in recognition of her services to the community.
Couture is frequently found out on the trails, sometimes exploring, but often helping out. “Joline doesn’t just sit back and simply enjoy everything that Tumbler Ridge has to offer,” said Zimmer. “She gives back so much more. Jolene is a member of the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Association, she is also a representative to the newly formed Tumbler Ridge Outdoor Recreation Association that is hosting this first ever Winter Fest. Jolene is a Canadian Ranger and has completed three training courses and participated in numerous exercises in the past several years. Jolene volunteers for the Emperor’s Challenge which is celebrating 25 successful years of competition in the BC Peace this year. I believe Jolene is an active board member of the Tumbler Ridge Mountain Bike Association, and three years ago Jolene married her pen pal of 20 years and will be celebrating as both of her sons get married this September.”
Joline says she is “incredibly proud: to be a resident of Tumbler Ridge. “Giving back to my community is is something that I really enjoy doing. I appreciate my husband Jarbas for allowing me to be a part of all this, because when I’m busy doing this he’s at home taking care of the household.”
