On January 20, Councillor Ken Klikach handed in his resignation to the Corporate Officer for the District of Tumbler Ridge.
His resignation means that there is an opening on council, and there will need to be a by-election to fill the vacant seat on council.
At the February 2 meeting of council, Director of Corporate Services Adriana Alves was appointed Chief Election Officer for the by-election.
While a date has yet to be set for the by-election, it must occur no later than 80 days after appointing the chief election officer, meaning the by-election must occur on or before April 23.
Once appointed, the chief election officer will prepare a report for council that details the by-election plan, timelines, financial implications, etc.
Klikach, the town’s former building inspector, was elected to council October 15, 2022. The next election is October 17, 2026, meaning he served just over half his term as a council member.
He received 364 votes, or 14.19 percent of the vote.
