After years of deliberation and discussion, BC Housing has sent notices out to residents of Chamberlain Cres that they are going to be tearing down the BC Housing project in Chamberlain Place. This comes as a bit of a surprise to the District, says Mayor Krakowka, as they have not yet applied for a demolition permit.
According to the notice, deconstruction was slated to begin on February 3—though nothing appears to have happened as of end of day— and could take up to four months to complete.
“We will follow the requirements outlined by the District of Tumbler Ridge., including all local bylaws, and all work areas will be clearly marked for safety,” says the letter. “We appreciate your patience during this work.”
BC Housing has no immediate plans for the site. “We plan to discuss the site’s redevelopment potential with the District of Tumbler Ridge over the coming months. We will share updates and keep lines of communication open with neighbours. Prior to any construction beginning, BC Housing would engage with the surrounding community.”
