Good news everybody! You don’t have to pay your District taxes!
At least, not until the District reprints and sends out the updated forms, as there was an error on the first version of the tax forms.
According to the District, there was a “transposition error in headers,” leading to an overcharge on the Regional District taxes.
“To address this issue,” says a notice on the District website, “the District of Tumbler Ridge will be reprinting and resending the property tax notices.”
The error was discovered on May 28. As soon as the error was discovered, the District paused accepting property tax payments until the updated notices get sent out.
“For those who have already paid their property taxes, please contact the District office if you wish to receive a refund otherwise the difference will remain as a credit on your tax account. This error, though unfortunate, will result in savings for you.”
Despite the error, the District is not changing the due date for property taxes. Residents still need to have them paid by July 2.
