Shortly before the pool’s annual month long shutdown, one of the heat exchange pumps at the aquatic centre failed. “We have to replace it,” says Director of Community Service Dennis Bento. “And, of course, it has to be custom built, which is why it’s going to take longer than expected.” Bento is hoping the part will be here sooner rather than later, but at the moment, the pool isn’t expected to open before then. Because of that, the annual triathlon is being pushed back to September 7.
If people are looking for something to do in the meantime, Bento says he’s working on getting lacrosse happening soon. “We’re trying to get some people in to teach lacrosse. In the meantime we’re trying to have the coaches ready for that and we’re going to have a registration list coming up pretty soon for people that want to join or try it out.” Once it starts, Bento expects to run lacrosse twice a week.
