As of Thursday March 28 at noon, category 2 and 3 open burning will be banned over summer in the north.
According to the Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC), the fire ban will remain in force until October 15, or until rescinded.
Category 2 and 3 fires are fires up to 2 m by 3 m.
This does not included category 1 fires, which are campfires up to .5 m in size, as well as burning grass and stubble.
“All persons lighting, fueling or using any of the open fires listed above within the restricted area are to cease doing so and to extinguish all such fires,” says the PRFC. “Members of the public and industry are urged to be extra vigilant when monitoring and in ensuring extinguishment of open burns.”
The following activities and use of the following equipment, materials and substances will also be prohibited:
- Fireworks
- Sky lanterns
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
- Binary exploding targets
This prohibition does not ban Category 1 (campfires) that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller, or the use of cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.
