We Serve

“We Serve.”

This is the motto of the International Lions Club.

We are your local Lions Club members.

Over the next four editions of our local paper, we will be contributing a series of articles that highlight who we are, how we contribute to Tumbler Ridge, what we have accomplished in our community and what we hope to accomplish in the coming years. But most importantly, we hope to familiarize readers with how they may become a member of the club.

First, let us start by saying that we are a nonreligious and non-political club. Our primary and only goal is to better the living conditions of our town citizens as individuals, our community as a whole and to promote peace throughout the world by helping whenever and wherever we can.

This service takes many forms. We raise money to help people in need (e.g., unforeseen medical expenses, citizens living with disabilities and seniors). We offer scholarships to local students. We provide money to local clubs, athletics, and schools. In short, we raise money so that we can give it away to those who may need it.

Our fund-raising activities often take the form of community events such as hosting weekly bingo games, BBQs, pancake breakfasts, and the operating of the arena concession and Flatbed Campground.

Of course, our community support does not end with money. We also provide annual events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Labour Day Picnic, Skating with Santa, the Duckie Race (gone but not forgotten), Christmas Hampers and contributing to other events such as the Pumpkin Patch.

In the coming weeks we will be highlighting other aspects of the club and what it means to be a member, what you can expect and what is expected of members.
