Breaking: Evacuation order issued

Most recent info here: https://tumblerridgelines.com/2023/06/09/fire-gets-to-within-3-km-of-town/

It’s official. An evacuation order has been issued for the District of Tumbler Ridge.

The fire is threatening Highway 52 to Dawson, so people are advised to travel via Highway 52 E (past Stony Lake) or Highway 29 to Chetwynd.

People are asked to check in, either at Chetwynd Town Hall, the Dawson Creek Ovintiv Centre, or, if you still need a place to stay or other services, at the Pomeroy Centre in Fort St John, as there are no more places to stay in either Chetwynd or Dawson Creek.

Even if you are not staying in these locations, and even if you are self sufficient, people are asked to check in, so Emergency Services know you are safe.

Highway 52 East and West (Dawson Creek and Tupper) are both closed; the only way in and out of town is Highway 29 or the Hiding Creek road.

The fire is still listed at 9600 ha.

BC Wildfire posted a video of the fire here.
