Darlana Lohr, formerly Moffatt, best known as mom and manager to Tumbler Ridge’s most famous musical export The Moffatts passed away March 7.
Sons Bob and Clint Moffatt posted the news on their Facebook site, Music Travel Love.
“We lost our mom this morning,” they posted. “She was such a light, an amazing mom and nana and we will miss her so much. We love you, mom and we will celebrate you. You are singing with the angels now.”
Back in the late 1980s, Darlana and her then-husband Frank Moffatt moved to Tumbler Ridge with their family in tow. Darlana, who loved to sing, taught her sons to love music.
The boys got better than they had any right to, and the family moved to Victoria so the boys could pursue their passion.
They outgrew Victoria, and moved to Branson, Missouri and, in 1993, to Nashville Tennessee.
Somewhere along the line the band broke up, as did Frank and Darlana. While the two remained close, Darlana remarried and stayed in Nashville, while the boys went on to do their own things.
Former husband Frank says “we all get our turn here on earth and some of us really make that time count—thank you Darlana for doing an amazing job bringing those four little boys into the world and sharing your gift of music with them. I’m grateful we were able to remain good friends after our relationship shifted and you were able to find a wonderful partner in Steve to spend so many amazing years. Now I’m sure you are sharing great moments in heaven with those that made the journey before you and maybe even whipping up some insanely amazing banana chocolate chip muffins! You will be missed.”
Darlana had been struggling with cancer since 2020, though no cause of death has been made public.
While their time in Tumbler Ridge was brief, the town still lays claim to the family, and many still remember the family.
All four brothers make music; Scott as a producer, Bob and Clint with Music Travel Love and Dave as a solo artist.
Trent is the publisher of Tumbler RidgeLines.
