Sherry Berringer is the once and now current Grant Writer.
Right now, she says, is a great time for Tumbler Ridge businesses, as the South Peace Mackenzie Trust— which encourages and supports economic development diversification and stabilization in Tumbler Ridge and other areas in the Peace—is looking to fund business ideas in the Tumbler Ridge area.
Of course, the funds are not just for Tumbler Ridge, but also for Mackenzie, McLeod Lake, Dawson, Pouce Coupe, Taylor, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd as well as first nations like Halfway River, West Moberly and Saulteau.
The funding can be used for a variety of projects, from hotel renovations to organizing music festivals to creating advertising to promote tourism to initiatives to promote food security. The big goal of the Trust is to support economic development and diversification in the region by creating “new income-earning positions”, as long as those positions do not adversely affect the recovery of the Southern Mountain Caribou herds. “These are just a few examples of projects that the SPMT will fund,” says Berringer “If someone had a project in mind, they can contact me, and I will investigate it to see if they are eligible to receive funding from this grant.”
