On the morning of June 11, 2021, Brenda Ann Holmlund died at the age of 70 and on the morning of February 4, 2022, Garry Wayne Holmlund died at the age of 75.
Brenda began her struggle with cancer in 2018 and Garry followed suit a year later. After over 40 years of marriage, they approached their diagnosis head on, supporting each other with grace and strength.
While they both grew up in Saskatchewan, they met at mining school in The Pas, Manitoba. In 1982, Garry moved to Tumbler Ridge to work at Quintette mine and Brenda and their two kids followed the next year when housing was available. After raising their kids, Garry and Brenda discovered a love of cruising around the world.
They both loved Tumbler Ridge, arguing and family. Brenda was outgoing and probably knew half of Canada and was eager to meet the other half. Garry was keen on exploring the back country on foot and on the water.
They are survived by their two children, Stephen Dreaver and Kristen Holmlund. A public celebration of life will be held for Garry & Brenda Holmlund on July 15 at 1:00 at the Community Centre.
Trent is the publisher of Tumbler RidgeLines.
