The truck (theft ring) stops here

On May 19, Tumbler Ridge RCMP entered a residence at 340 Northgate as part of an investigation into possession of stolen property crime involving theft of trucks and the stripping of trucks.

Constable David Ribaro says that the suspects would steal a vehicle elsewhere, then disassemble it for parts to resell.

“We’re currently executing a search warrant a 300 block of Northgate Street, and we’ve already recovered numerous items belonging to victims, which we’re already starting to return,” says Ribaro. “We’re going to proceed on investigations to see if we can amass sufficient evidence to be able to charge someone.”

For now, says Riaro, the investigation is ongoing, so there isn’t a lot he can say. However, he does say that it appears the vehicles were being stolen elsewhere and the parts were being stored in tumbler ridge. “We don’t believe that they are staying in town or anything like that. Nor do we believe there is a chop shop in Tumbler Ridge. This appears to be a one off case.

“We’ve been investigating this for quite a few weeks, and targeting specific individuals. We believe that it’s not going to be any further issue in town. The Tumbler Ridge RCMP is not concerned that and property crimes tied to these individuals will happen here. The incidents we are currently investigating didn’t occur in Tumbler Ridge. They had occurred elsewhere, and the items were brought into Tumbler Ridge.”

Ribaro says the RCMP “grabbed the issue by the horns, right from the start. The RCMP in Tumbler Ridge has all the time in the world to focus on these things, and these individuals need to know they’re not welcome to conduct these kinds of behaviors in town.” The investigation is ongoing.
