On October 19, townspeople gathered outside the door for the Tumbler Ridge Post Office. They gathered outside as the front door was locked, with nothing but a sign saying the post office was closed.
According to Canada Post, the office was closed due to possible Covid exposure. “We were notified today that an employee working at the Tumbler Ridge Post Office is presumptive for Covid and is being tested,” said a spokesperson for Canada Post. “While at our facility, the employee followed our physical distancing measures and wore personal protective equipment.”
During the closure, the post office was cleaned and sanitized.
“We certainly understand that operating during Covid can cause concerns for employees,” said the spokesperson. “That’s why, since the beginning, we’ve committed to closely following the advice of public health officials at the national and local level in order to keep the employees and the people they serve safe. We also work closely with union officials at the local level to address concerns and adapt our approach as guidance evolves.”
The post office reopened the next day.
