All three fires in the Tumbler Ridge area have new area restrictions in place as of yesterday.
While there was already an area restriction in place for the Ridgeview fire, those boundaries have been updated. See below.
Meanwhile (and possibly because people keep going past the roadblocks), both Tentfire and Bearhole now have official area restrictions.
Violating these restrictions comes with an $1150 fine, so unless you have an actual legal reason to be in the area, which includes the following:
- Travelling to or from your residence;
- Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
- Travelling through or entering the area as a person acting in an official capacity;
- Travelling through or entering the area for an approved purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities; or
- Travelling through or entering the area for the purposes of carrying out an industrial activity as defined in the Wildfire Act and Wildfire Regulation.
If you don’t meet these qualifications, please avoid these areas. Yes, even though it is currently raining.
These orders will remain in place until September 30, or until rescinded.
