While there have been (unconfirmed and unsubstantiated) rumours swirling about cases of Covid in Tumbler Ridge, first at the mine, then at the school, the first official case has been confirmed by the District of Tumbler Ridge.
According to a release sent out Thursday, December 17, “The District of Tumbler Ridge has been informed that an employee has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.”
While the employee has not been identified, the release does link the case to the Community Centre: “Representatives from the Northern Health Authority will be conducting contact tracing for anyone identified to have been exposed as a result of visiting the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre, primarily the weight room facility, on December 7-8.”
Little else has been made public at this time, other than “all appropriate measures are being reviewed and enhanced in order to ensure that District facilities are safe for its users,” and that, while Northern Health is contact tracing, “Only those who are identified to be potential contacts during these times will be contacted by Northern Health.”
Tumbler Ridge Secondary School put out a message to people earlier today saying “We have recently been made aware of concerns in our school community regarding the presence of Covid-19. At this time, we have not been notified by the local health authority regarding any student or staff being confirmed to have Covid-19.”
