As expected, the weather alert has been upgraded to a Weather Warning.
A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected today.
“Up to 75 mm of rain is expected to fall over over the eastern slopes of the Rockies from the Peace River region to Muncho Lake Park – Stone Mountain Park from today through Thursday morning.
“An upper low centre over southern Alberta is helping to pump moisture across northern Alberta and into northeastern BC. Rainfall will become enhanced as the moisture reaches the eastern slopes of the Rocky mountains. In the Fort Nelson region, the heaviest rainfall will be confined to the southwest sections.
“As the low weakens on Thursday, rain will taper to showers. However, showers are expected to continue into Friday.Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
Canada Day happens tomorrow, and, surprise surprise, there’s a weather alert in effect from Environment Canada.
Heavy rain is expected Wednesday and Thursday, with up to 80 mm or more expected. “However, there remains some uncertainty about just how much rain will fall during this prolonged event,” says the Alert.
A low pressure system is developing over Southern Alberta today and is expected to intensify as it moves northward into Northern Alberta by Wednesday evening. The system will funnel rain onto the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
Showers should begin to fall over the BC South Peace River Region including Tumbler Ridge this afternoon, and will transition into rain by Wednesday morning and rain, heavy at times, by Wednesday night. The rain, heavy at times, will taper off on Thursday morning, but showers will persist into Friday.
Rainfall warnings may be issued as the system further develops and confidence in rainfall amounts increases.
