The last 48 hours have seen the number of positive cases of Covid-19 grow rapidly.
Yesterday’s briefing was earlier in the day, so today’s covered two days. Even so, the jump of new cases was shocking.
“The number of new cases that we’ve had is 145,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry at today’s press event. “67 on March 23, and in the last 24 hours, another 78 positives.”
This brings the total number of positive cases in BC to 617.
The number of new cases in the north went from five to nine.
As usual, the location of these cases is not being identified.
Of the 617 positive cases, 59 are in hospital.
The good news is 173 people have fully recovered. Even better, there were no new deaths announced.
While BC’s cases continue to rise, Dr Henry is confident the numbers do not put us on track for another situation as in Italy.
“I do not believe we’re on the same direct trajectory as Italy,” she said. “We also put in measures at a point in time that is quite different from when they put in measures. And, you know, I really do believe that, like the U.S. as well, our testing strategy early on helped us better understand what was happening in our community.”
