Personal services ordered to close; restaurants take-out only

The number of reported cases of Covid-19 in the north has held at four for the fourth day in a row. While there is still quite a while before we see if the policies instituted help reverse the spread of the disease (it can take up to two weeks or more for signs to appear), locals are cautiously optimistic with the numbers.

The total number of cases in the province grew by 76 to 424 people infected. Of those, ten have died, six have recovered and 27 have required hospitalization. The majority of infections are in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health regions.

Hairdressers and other personal service establishments (nail salons, tattoo parlours, barbershops, beauty parlours, health spas and massage parlours) have been ordered to close until further notice by Chief Medical Officer Bonnie Henry. “These services require direct, personal contact with other people, and that is impossible to deliver while maintaining appropriate distancing”, says the BC Government.

As well, all restaurants are required to move to take-out or delivery models only. If they can’t do that, they will be required to close.

The federal government announced new measures to provide support for Canadians at home or abroad, as well as support for international students, seasonal agricultural workers and other temporary foreign workers.
