Keith Bertrand, Mayor
Dear Residents of Tumbler Ridge.
This is a unique time that we are living in. I want to start by saying that if I had to be anywhere in the world and undergoing social distancing, I’m glad it’s here. The Province’s medical experts have asked us not to gather in groups and we should listen to that advice. However, many of us live in this area for the great outdoors. Please take your family on a hike, take your dog for a walk, go out snowmobiling, and enjoy the vast natural background that has led to us becoming a UNESCO Geopark.
In times like this it is important that we all come together and help one another. The District has started a home delivery program for those at risk or self-isolating due to COVID-19. Let’s ensure that during these times that we keep in mind those in our community in need. Pick up the phone and call your elderly neighbour, parent at home with kids, or friend who can’t leave the house due to a weakened immune system and remind them that social distancing is only physical; that we still care and will support one another.
I also want to implore everyone to follow the directions being given by the Province for our safety. Do not attend public spaces if you are sick, self-isolate if you have returned to the country, and maintain physical distance from the general public around you. In order for the efforts being undertaken around the world to work we must all do our part in the prevention of a spread.
Our staff is working hard to continue to provide the services we depend on daily such as water, sewer, roads, garbage, and emergency services. These services will continue in the high quality we have grown accustomed to in our time here. They are also continuing to monitor the ever changing situation with the safety of our community and your family in mind. Please watch for our updates and do your best to follow the advice and instructions that may come.
Our community and its people are strong, its why we live in the North. We will get through this together.
