Updates from today’s press conference with Prime Minister Trudeau: Non-Canadians are not being allowed into the country, (with some exceptions, including people from the US).
Air operators will be formally mandated to assess anyone’s health before they are allowed on a plane. There will be a support program for Canadian Travellers to help cover costs.
Starting Wednesday, only four Canadian airports will be allowing international flights: Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. At this time, North American flights will still be allowed.
“These are exceptional circumstances, calling for exceptional measures,” says Trudeau. “These measures will help save lives.
“We can still slow the spread of this virus, but the window is closing.”
“The message we are sending today is: If you are a Canadian travelling abroad, it’s time to come home.”
The BC Government has reduced the ban on groups larger than 250 to 50. In the last 24 hours, three more British Columbians had died due to COVID-19 and 30 additional cases have been detected, bringing the total number to 103.
