Been out of the country in the last two weeks? As of today (Friday, March 13) access for international traveller is prohibited to District buildings, in an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
According to a sign at the Rock Pit gym (which is not uploading at the moment), the District is doing this to “maintain a safe workplace” and “to maintain the health of the public”.
Anyone who has been travelling out of the country is prohibited from entering the space.
We didn’t find out about this until after the close of business (I was at a training course), but here is a statement from MP Bob Zimmer on the Corvus-19 issue:
“The risk to Canadians is still low and I encourage everyone to remain calm and to continue to practice good hygiene. This includes:
· washing your hands for at least 20 seconds;
· avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth;
· coughing or sneezing into a tissue or your sleeve;
· avoiding contact with people who are sick; and
· staying home if you are sick.
“If you have travelled to an affected region and/or you develop a fever, cough or difficulty breathing within two weeks of contact, please call your health care provider or HealthLink BC at 811. The Public Health Agency of Canada has also set up a Coronavirus Hotline at 1-833-784-4397.”
“We must all work together during this difficult time to ensure we flatten the curve to reduce the stress on our health care system.”
Zimmer says he will be in the riding to assist with any outbreak as he can. Parliament is adjourned until April 20.
