On Wednesday, October 16, Chief Ken Cameron along with a pair of councillors from the Saulteau Nation, joined representatives from Allteck, the Belcourt family and Miss Schwab’s class to honour Faith Belcourt for coming up with a logo for Allteck.
“Allteck is a power company and has over 50% Indigenous Inclusion for Site C consistently, says Geena Jackson, Vice President Indigenous Advancement and Business Development for Allteck. “We wanted to search for a logo for our crews at Site C that represented unity, togetherness, team work and equality.”
Jackson says that Faith’s logo was the first to arrive, and each subsequent logo submission was judged against it. None of them, she says, had all the qualities they were looking for. None of them, that is, save Faith’s.
Her prize for winning the contest was $500, which Faith says she might use to buy art supplies.
Jackson says it is important for the company to engage and include local First Nations and their members in everything that we do. “There was 10 entries from local Indigenous Artists,” she says. “Faith was the only youth (12 years old); the next “youngest” was 29 years old!”
In addition to the prize money, Allteck threw a pizza party for her class, a $100 art set, and a hoodie and hat displaying her logo.
