Earlier today, a black bear was sighted in the HD Mining housing development west of Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
The sighting happened at noon today, and a call was placed to the conservation officer and the RCMP, who are monitoring the situation.
As of 1:30, the bear had moved south into the wooded area between the visitor centre and the school.
The school is requesting that students do not exit or walk south of the building (by the entrance/exit to the parking lot) just to be safe.
However exiting North, West, and East of the school has been deemed safe.
A supervisor will be outside monitoring during the afternoon break and after school.
Students who are walking should walk in groups of three or more and talk loudly.
