The times, they are a’changing. And so is the weather.
First, a winter storm warning has been issued by Environment Canada. A slow moving frontal system is moving in for the next 24-36 hours. While it is here, it is expected to drop up to 50 cm of snow (that’s a foot and a half for all you who missed the whole change to metric in 1976, or two and a half links, if you like your measurements really obscure) in the Tumbler Ridge area.
Once the snow has fallen, expect it to get reasonably cold for the forseeable future.
“As the frontal system collides with an advancing Arctic cold front late today and tonight, strong winds will develop over parts of the northern interior generating poor visibilities in blowing snow.”
The snow will stop on Saturday, as the cold weather moves in. Expect at least a week of winter-like temperatures, with temperatures forecasted to stay below -10 until at least next Saturday.
If you don’t have to drive, don’t, as snow is expected to accumulate on the roads and visibility will be poor.
“If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. ShiftIntoWinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.”
